On Tuesday our Year 10 students participated in a program allowing them to volunteer and give back to their immediate community.
Activities such as assisting in building kitchen gardens, painting and decorating classroom walls and doors, developing junior Maths lessons, re-organising textiles resources, providing barista skills to hand out coffee, milkshakes and cakes, developing more useable spaces for the Big Hill fitness program, clearing sports stores, developing processes to catalogue and store art equipment, constructing musical support equipment, teaching students to swim and assisting with the library stocktake were just a few of the things that students were able to volunteer their time to help with.
The Giving Back Day program has been running at 四虎影院 for the past 10 years and has been a wonderful way of allowing Year 10 students to see the value in volunteering. It allows them to critically reflect upon their immediate environment and develop an activity to volunteer within to show their appreciation towards their community. They are giving back to those they feel they want to say a simple, 鈥榯hank you鈥 to.
All students involved in Giving Back Day gain a certificate they can include in their portfolio of achievements.
